I believe that the absolute key to financial freedom is to own a collection of assets that produce monthly income and cash flow. I use my savings to invest in these kinds of assets so that I can build up other sources of income besides my regular paycheck from work.
My investment income comes from a variety of sources. Stock dividends and rental income make up the majority of my investment income, while interest and distributions from Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), low-cost index mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) make up the rest.
My goal is to keep building up this income to reach around $4-$5k per month. At that point I’ll consider myself financial free. My investment income reports are simply my way of tracking my progress so that I can see the overall trend of where I’m headed.
